With its earliest roots as Pasadena Child Guidance Clinic, Pacific Clinics provides a range of programs for very young,
pre-teen and teen-aged schoolchildren and their families. Often from unstable or disadvantaged homes, they
exhibit behavioral problems often stemming from neglect, abuse, homelessness, abandonment, and serial relocation.
Emphasizing prevention and early intervention, children's services staff work with parents, caregivers and agencies to provide culturally sensitive and supportive therapeutic care. Family involvement in counseling and parent-child therapy is encouraged with the goal of stabilizing and preserving the family unit.
These programs complement and work with Pacific Clinics' extensive
family services.
Comprehensive Assessment Program
Infants and very young children (0 to 5 years) in troubled family situations are evaluated for the emotional effects of abusive or neglectful parents or caregivers, as well as the effects that poverty
and family instability may inflict on them. Referred by a variety of agencies and other Pacific Clinics programs, these high-risk youngsters and their families are assessed for identification and early intervention and provided with parent training and support services.
Child Day Treatment
In coordination with community agencies, day treatment therapy and supportive services provide a range of in-clinic daily and school-based programs to help children deal with the daily challenges they face and their
responses to them. Care services are provided at home in certain instances and in community-based settings.

Children's Respite Program
The
Los Angeles County Children's Respite Program is a support service to help relieve parents/caregivers from the stress and strain that result from providing constant care for a child with a serious emotional disorder. The program was developed through the Department of Mental Health with funds provided by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA). Pacific Clinics also provides training to other agencies for the respite program.
Children's Intensive Community Services (CICS)
Pacific Clinics' CICS program provides intensive short-term therapeutic and supportive services to children and adolescents, many of whom have recently been hospitalized or are at risk of repeating hospitalization. Many of the program's clients are in foster care and at risk of losing their current placements. The program works with the children's natural and foster families to help children remain in their homes and schools. A network of community resources helps the children remain stable, achieve their goals and avoid re-admission to acute levels of care.
