In 2003, Pacific Clinics established the Consumer Activities and Resources for Emergency (C.A.R.E.) Fund with the goal of providing financial resources to support consumer activities, educational and socialization programs, and program needs for adults and children. The C.A.R.E. Fund also helps provide consumers with support in case of unforeseen or extraordinary life events.

Since the Fund was launched, more than 200 Pacific Clinics consumers and their families have been helped with items such as:

• Funeral expenses for a consumer’s son;
• Beds for a formerly homeless family with three small children;
• Eyeglasses for an elderly consumer who had his original pair stolen;
• Airline costs for a consumer and his mother to fly to El Salvador to claim his father’s body;
• Relocation expenses for an unemployed consumer whose medical condition necessitated an immediate move;
• Tutoring of a nine-year-old consumer who had fallen three years behind in school due to mental illness.
