March 2020 Newsletter – The Maiden Voyage

As you can imagine, the main story dominating world news right now is the new coronavirus and its impact on our daily lives. While Uplift Family Services continues to provide essential services and programs to our customers, our staff and customers are impacted by the pandemic as well.

In response to growing concerns about COVID-19—and validated by the statewide shelter-in-place order—we postponed our annual Hearts & Hands Luncheon. We were, however, able to spotlight a luncheon honoree, Roger Barney, and the amazing work he has done for our Addition Prevention Services. A new date will be announced, so subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed!

We also created a page dedicated to national, statewide, and local coronavirus resources for our youth and families as they grapple with COVID-19. This is an upheaval to our daily lives, and we hope this page can provide critical information to help families through it. Information on the page includes government resource pages, local food banks, at-home learning portals, school lunch meal programs, and more.

Finally, Eleanor Castillo-Sumi authored a whitepaper on behalf of Uplift Family Services outlining the critical role behavioral health providers play in the response to and recovery from COVID-19. And the latest edition of our trauma-informed newsletter, Lionhearted, examines what happens when trauma goes viral.

Looking to the Future

Even though we had envisioned bringing you stories of our newest Professional Parent and highlighting our services, we knew it was our responsibility to bring you up to speed on Uplift Family Services’ response to COVID-19.

Future newsletters will continue to bring you the most relevant and up-to-date information about Uplift Family Services and the thousands of Californians we help every day. Whether it’s coming together as a global community in the face of a crisis or an uplifting story from your neighbors down the road, the Uplift Family Services monthly newsletter has you covered.

We’d love to have you along for the journey.
