During Substance Use Prevention Week, Pacific Clinics joins the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in raising awareness about the importance of preventing substance use and supporting healthy choices for individuals, families and communities. Prevention starts with education, awareness, early intervention, and open conversations—especially with youth.
This week is a time to highlight the power of community-based programs, peer support and accessible mental health resources that help prevent substance use before it starts. At Pacific Clinics, we remain committed to empowering individuals with the tools, knowledge and care they need to thrive—free from the harmful effects of substance use.
Pacific Clinics offers substance prevention and early intervention programs at our Hope Drop-in Centers, Asian Pacific Family Center(APFC) locations and more.
“Prevention is essential to avoiding the onset of disease, injury and even death. While it is often overlooked in healthcare, prevention plays a vital role in promoting health, conducting research, and providing education across key areas such as nutrition, substance use, reproductive health and mental health. By equipping individuals and communities with the necessary knowledge and tools, prevention empowers people to thrive and achieve optimal well-being,” said Joed Garbo, prevention specialist, Pacific Clinics Asian Pacific Family Center.
In addition to educational and awareness resources for prevention, Evangelica Child, prevention coordinator, Pacific Clinics Asian Pacific Family Center, reminds us how prevention can be conducted with Narcan. “Narcan is a nasal spray that can be administered to someone experiencing symptoms of an opioid overdose and it has saved many lives. Regardless, if a student is using substances, they can carry Narcan on them to prevent a peer from overdosing.”
Our goal is to promote wellness and ensure that everyone—especially our youth—can live a healthy and safe life. If you would like to seek preventative support, contact us at 877-PC-CARES (722-2737).
