Placement Supportive Services

Therapeutic treatment and stabilization services for children, youth and non-minor dependents

Placement Supportive Services (PSS) is a program in partnership with the Department of Family and Children Services’ (DFCS) Placement Unit.

Through this partnership, PSS provides stabilization services by offering individual, intensive, short-term therapeutic treatment and crisis stabilization to children, youth and non-minor dependents ages 0-21 who are either living at the Welcoming Center (a licensed transitional care shelter facility) or one of DFCS’ satellite homes, at risk of entering the Welcoming Center, at risk of losing their home placement, or for individuals who may need additional help finding a placement that is a good fit for their behavioral needs.

How Does PSS Help?

• Sixty-day program (extensions beyond 60 days can be granted as needed by the DFCS’ Placement Unit)
• Team-based and strength-based approach
• Assessment and safety planning
• Additional support for caregivers, parents or other significant youth supports
• Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings, which connect families with natural supports, service providers, trusted community members and others with the goal of providing safety and stability for the child
• Linkage to community resources related to youth and family strengths and needs, e.g. food pantries, job resources, LGBTQ+ safe spaces, etc.
• Development of a natural support network, which may include family finding (a process that seeks to identify relatives, estranged from or unknown to the child, especially those willing to become permanent connections for them)
• After-hours on-call network with 24/7 staffing, giving us the capacity to respond to referrals quickly
• Support with referrals and recommendations to the appropriate level of services following discharge, including but not limited to other Pacific Clinics services such as Katie A, Wraparound and Family Therapeutic Services
• When the DFCS’ Placement Unit identifies the need for a specialized home, potential Professional Parent placement for children and teens in foster care who require more intensive services and supports

Program Eligibility

• Referrals come exclusively from DFCS. PSS serves youths ages 0-21, in need of placement stabilization
• Capacity to serve up to 62 youth
• Youth referred to PSS must meet medical necessity
