Who is ready for a picnic?

If you enthusiastically raised your hand and shouted, “me,” you are in luck! The annual Uplift Family Services Foster Care picnic is coming back this year, virtually, on Saturday, May 29!

May is National Foster Care Month!

Each year, May is recognized as National Foster Care Month by proclamation from the President of the United States.

“National Foster Care Month is an opportunity for us to celebrate the resource and kin families who are supporting children by opening their homes and sharing their love. Crucially, it is also an opportunity to celebrate foster youth and all of their accomplishments, and to celebrate and encourage the many biological parents who are working hard to safely reunite with their children. And it provides an opportunity for us to fulfill our responsibility as a Nation to take care of each other and provide our vulnerable youth and families with the support they need.”

We couldn’t agree more, but there is still work to be done.

To that end, this picnic will be one part celebrating the families and youth who make foster care a success, and one part informational for anyone interested in getting involved. We encourage our attendees to invite other family members and friends who are interested in becoming resource (formerly called foster) parents.

Find a spot in your living room, backyard, or bedroom to spread out the blanket, grab a basket with some lunch, and gather the family around your computer to join the fun. You can meet our staff and current resource families, all of whom are ready to answer your foster care questions.

The theme of the day will be “Our Favorite Vacation Destination” and that’s where you come in. Whether it’s a place you’ve gone a dozen times, just once, or only in your daydreams, we want to know what your favorite destination is! Apply a background filter, dress up as you would on that trip, and even set up some props. Let your imagination and creativity run wild. There might even be a surprise for the best theme!

Finally, as a thank you to everyone involved in our foster care program, we will be raffling off a few prizes throughout the day, such as gift baskets, gift cards, and more!
