Made possible by an anonymous grant to the Endless Summer therapeutic after school program, “The Wizard of Oz” play was a hit at Hollygrove last week! Huge thanks to actress Busy Philipps for narrating.
“The Wizard of Oz” was a perfect choice for a performance because it portrays messages similar to the focus of Endless Summer. The program promotes personal empowerment, friendship and teaches kids how to recognize those who love them – and to remind them that they are loved.
Due to emotional and behavioral challenges, the children served by Hollygrove typically feel powerless, are unable to maintain friendships and are unsure about what love is and may have had negative or inappropriate experiences defining love. Endless Summer provides a safe place for kids to “belong” and they receive unconditional regard from staff and volunteers.
The generous donor who made “The Wizard of Oz” production possible requested that the funds be used for a performing arts program. The program was a 12-week project where each child had an important role to play in its success. Kids took part in acting, music or set production. By the time the project was complete, each child realized a sense of pride and felt as if they were a part of something “bigger.”
Thanks to our generous donor, Busy Philipps, volunteers and all staff who made this production possible.
