The TRUST program provides low-risk de-escalation assistance, referrals, and stabilization services for individuals in need of behavioral health support

SAN JOSE, Calif. (January 22, 2024) — Pacific Clinics’ Trusted Response Urgent Support Team (TRUST) program has launched newly branded vans, which will be visible in communities throughout Santa Clara County.

“These vans will advance our goal of becoming a visible presence in the community while serving as a reminder that 24-hour support is only a call away,” said TRUST Program Manager of Member Engagement and Outreach Elyse Malcolm. “They will also allow our team to provide a mobile safe space for individuals in need of immediate assistance.”

What is the TRUST program?

The TRUST program, which is a partnership between Pacific Clinics, Momentum for Health and HomeFirst, supports individuals in Santa Clara County who are emotionally distressed by helping to stabilize them within the community in which they live. Since launching in November of 2022, the TRUST program has responded to more than 1,500 calls.

In addition to low-risk de-escalation assistance and stabilization services, TRUST team members provide referrals to other community agencies and services. Our call center and field response teams are available 24/7 to answer calls for help and seek to provide behavioral health and basic medical assessment services through phone or in-person support.

The TRUST team is comprised of licensed professionals and individuals with lived experience, which often results in a deeper connection to the challenges that individuals in need may be facing. They respond to each call with a listening ear, meeting community members where they’re at, at that moment in time, and strive to bring a calming presence to all situations, recognizing that a lack of sensory overstimulation (such as lights and sirens) can contribute positively towards de-escalating stressful situations.

TRUST, which was modeled after the CAHOOTS program in Eugene, Oregon, was designed in collaboration with various community stakeholders in Santa Clara County after the community expressed the desire for a field response program that could resolve lower-level behavioral health situations without involving higher levels of community support.
