Why it Matters

Teen Suicide Is a Growing Public Health Crisis
  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth aged 10–24 in the U.S.
  • Black adolescents face a 60%+ increase in suicide rates over the last 20 years.
  • Most teens show signs before a crisis, but adults often don’t know how to respond.
  • Many teens express distress through silence, anger, or physical complaints, not words.

Pacific Clinics’ Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide free early education and child care for children from birth to age 5 and prenatal and parenting support for income-eligible families.

We teach children about sharing emotions in a healthy way. Most teachers are bilingual and all have college degrees. Pacific Clinics’ behavioral health professionals are available to provide support to children and parents. Parents can choose from half-day or full-day programs.

To promote overall health and wellness, we offer vision and hearing checks, access to medical and dental services and consultations with a registered dietitian to all students.

“My child has learned so much while attending Pacific Clinics’ Head Start program. Their program prepared him for kindergarten and taught him how to share his emotions. They also provided me guidance on healthy meal preparation ways to help my child to continue to learn at home.”

– Sarah

Parent Engagement

You are your child’s first teacher. Parent and caregiver engagement is important to help your child thrive by extending learning at home. Caregivers with children enrolled in Early Head Start and Head Start work with our educators to:

  • Create family action plans and review progress
  • Volunteer in the classroom
  • Attend family-focused workshops
  • Receive referrals for supportive services

Home-Based Education for Parents

Through our Home-Based program, home educators meet with expectant mothers and parents of children from birth to 3 years of age. We educate caregivers about child development and resources to help in their role as their child’s first teacher

Socialization opportunities are available to foster parent-child interaction and connection with other families in the community.
