Emmett was home-schooled during his teen years, which negatively impacted his social and communications skills, and eventually lead to depression and extreme social anxiety.

When he first moved into Uplift Family Services’ Crossroads Transitional Housing program for young adults, Emmett did the bare minimum to meet the requirements of the program. However, as time went on, the support and encouragement he received from his treatment team helped improve his self-esteem, and he started to come out of his shell. He especially loved tinkering with motorcycles and trucks, so the Crossroads staff helped Emmett enroll in a local welding program, from which he graduated in May of 2018. Within two weeks, Emmett found his first full-time job.

Today, he says his decision to enroll changed his life forever, and he’s learned that, with determination, anyone can achieve their goals, be successful, and live a healthy, fulfilling life.
