After suffering neglect from her drug-addicted mom and abuse by her stepfather, Samantha entered foster care at age six. She bounced around eight foster homes before she landed at an Uplift Family Services’ foster home. Here, she at last found a dependable network of support.

Samantha was angry at her mom for abandoning her and allowing abuse to take place. Her Uplift Family Services team identified the best guidance and therapy to help her control and constructively work through her anger.

As Samantha’s behavior improved, so did her relationships. She met the Parker family through a friend’s Bible study group, and a special relationship formed. The Parkers—already birth and adoptive parents—received support from Uplift Family Services to become certified Resource Parents so that Samantha could come live with them.

The Parkers’ request to adopt Samantha was approved three days before she graduated from high school as valedictorian.
