Sofia entered foster care when she was just eight years old due to family violence. As an adolescent, she started hanging around with the wrong crowd and was in and out of juvenile hall. After many years of feeling sad and unwanted, she was accepted to Uplift Family Services’ Transitional Housing Program.

Staff were consistent and supportive with Sofia, and accepted her as she was. Over the time she has been in this program, staff have coached her on everything from budgeting skills, to assembling a bookcase, to setting boundaries with roommates. Sofia has continued to thrive in this program, and is currently attending community college and working at a nonprofit agency that helps teens understand how to better their lives through restorative justice. She recently moved back into her community, and says her experience in our program has been a true blessing for her!
