For much of her life, Carrie has lived with bipolar disorder, navigating cycles of mania and depression that left her feeling stuck. Traditional treatments weren’t enough, until she discovered Pacific Clinics’ Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) program, designed to help people with treatment-resistant mental health challenges.
TMS therapy is a non-invasive procedure that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate targeted areas of the brain. By activating the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, a region in the brain linked to depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and other psychiatric conditions, TMS helps restore healthier brain activity. In fact, TMS may resolve or significantly improve the symptoms of depression in 65-70% of those who have not responded to one or more antidepressant medication treatments.
For Carrie, the difference has been life-changing. “Before TMS, I wasn’t able to get out of bed in the morning,” she shares. “Now I wake up with energy, I can shower, get dressed, do chores and take care of my day.”
Clinical Director Connie Sun has seen similar results across clients. “In just three to four weeks, depression scores are dropping by an average of eight points,” she explains. “That means someone severely depressed can move down to moderate, or from moderate to mild. It’s incredible progress in such a short time.”
Each treatment lasts about five minutes, requires no anesthesia and carries minimal side effects. For clients, it feels like a light tapping sensation on the head.
“Everyone notices a difference in me,” Carrie shares. “I’m able to set boundaries better, I have better relationships, I am able to take better care of myself. I would say it saved my life.”
Through TMS, Pacific Clinics is paving the way forward for individuals who once felt they had no options.
