Earlier this month, Pacific Clinics’ Trusted Response Urgent Support Team (TRUST) sponsored and hosted a booth at the 10th annual NAMIWalks Silicon Valley event, which supports the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), a grassroots organization dedicated to building better lives for those with mental health challenges. Hundreds of Bay Area residents who are passionate about mental health advocacy met at History Park in San Jose and walked one mile around Downtown San Jose to raise more than $240,000 for NAMI. Attendees also heard from District 28 Assemblymember Gail Pellerin and enjoyed post-walk festivities such as therapy dogs from Paws-to-Share and live music.
During the event, the TRUST team talked to more than 250 people, distributed flyers and other educational materials, as well as NARCAN (naloxone) nasal spray kits, an over-the-counter opioid overdose treatment, and fentanyl test strips, which detect the presence of fentanyl in different drugs, reducing the risk of overdosing. The team also gave tours of our TRUST vans and attendees took turns at the prize wheel, where they could win branded stress balls, notebooks, pens and more.
“Participating in NAMIWalks Silicon Valley is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of our community,” said Crisis Clinical Director Laura Yelland. “We’re proud to support NAMI and to highlight Pacific Clinics’ TRUST services, which provide immediate, compassionate support community members dealing with an urgent mental health or substance use situation. Together, we’re working to break the stigma around mental health and ensure that no one walks their journey alone.”
