Pacific Clinics proudly celebrated the grand reopening of its newly enhanced South Los Angeles facility earlier this month. This location, formerly known as Portals, has a rich history in the community — spared during the 1992 LA Riots and served as a lifeline for mental health, housing and employment services for decades.
The event brought together community partners, business leaders and clients for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and heartfelt speeches from Laura Pancake, chief clinical officer, Jessica Gholson, clinical director and Estephany Yoncee, director of housing. Laura, who began her career at this location and program, shared her personal journey and highlighted the rich history of this community cornerstone. Jessica provided an overview of the many programs and services offered at the site that help clients secure employment, overcome substance use and addiction and focus on their wellness and recovery. Estephany discussed the housing services provided to clients, assisting them on their road to independence.
The program concluded with a former client sharing a heartfelt story of how this location and its employees provided life-changing support during a critical time, emphasizing the impact of these programs on real lives. “Pacific Clinics never gave up on me, even when I gave up on myself,” said Deondri. “They believed in me, and that’s why I am thriving today.”

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees were taken on guided tours of the facility that ended in the courtyard where they could enjoy a catered barbecue meal and connect with community members, clients and employees.
“Through partnership and access to essential resources, our members discover a place where they can feel safe, where they can belong and where hope can retake root – free of judgment,” said Laura.
The rebrand and renovation symbolize more than a name change. They represent Pacific Clinics’ unwavering commitment to integrated care and creating welcoming spaces for underserved communities.
With a refreshed design and unified branding, Pacific Clinics will continue to advance health equity and mental well-being for children, adults and families, not only in South LA, but throughout the state of California.
