Pacific Clinics Recovery Education Institute (REI) an academic program located in Orange, California that provides human services certifications, GED study preparation, ESL courses and enrichment workshops, has opened a library in honor of student Robin Gantenbein. The REI team commemorated the ribbon-cutting ceremony by opening with a heartfelt dedication from Annie Medina, assistant education director, followed by stories of Robin’s journey from the REI team and a guest breakfast.
Robin joined REI in 2017 through the Wellness Center, where he was introduced to diverse workshops that inspired him to pursue his goal of learning to read and write. Success coaches were with him every step of the way to assist him in achieving his goal with ongoing tutoring sessions.
“Robin is a motivated, kind, curious and dedicated student who always registered for workshops that helped improve his personal and academic development,” said Jennifer Tipan, academic advisor. “He always made a great effort to seek new information and learn.”
The new library celebrates Robin’s achievements while providing a space for others to pursue their educational goals. It features Robin’s favorite books, James and the Giant Peach and The BFG, which symbolize his love for stories and personal growth. This space at REI is a testament to Robin’s legacy and serves as a source of inspiration for students overcoming challenges.
At the library’s opening event, Jim Wainwright, senior clinical director, reflected on Robin’s journey: “First, you learn to read, then you read to learn.”
