Kathy McCarthy assumes CEO/President role

Darrell Evora & Kathy McCarthyCAMPBELL, Calif., December 20, 2021 – Uplift Family Services announced that Chief Executive Officer Darrell Evora will retire after 29 years with the behavioral healthcare nonprofit.

Evora joined Uplift Family Services in 1992 and worked in the agency’s Wraparound and UPLIFT programs before moving into senior leadership and eventually taking the helm as chief executive officer in 2009. Among his myriad achievements are the proliferation of the wraparound model of care throughout the state of California, opening the Bay Area region’s Crisis Stabilization Unit, piloting and subsequently implementing the Specialty Applied Behavior Analysis program, which serves those with autism. He also extended the agency’s supportive services to adults by partnering with Pacific Clinics and School Health Clinics of Santa Clara to become a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic.

Kathy McCarthy, currently president of the agency, has been selected by Evora and the Uplift Family Services Board of Directors to serve as chief executive officer/president as a part of a planned transition. An experienced business leader, McCarthy formally assumed responsibilities on November 19, 2021.

“Darrell has given so much of his heart, intellect and enthusiasm for the work to our communities and our organization,” said McCarthy.  “He leaves the agency with a strong foundation upon which to expand our reach into more communities in need.”

“I could not retire without knowing that my child for the past 30 years–this agency–was in excellent hands. With Kathy as CEO, I know we are poised for continued success,” said Evora. “She is very smart, has good judgment, and is an excellent leader! She is the best person to lead Uplift Family Services into its next chapter.” Evora will remain with the agency in a consultative role.

McCarthy joined Uplift Family Services in 2010 and has previously held the roles of chief legal counsel, chief administrative officer and chief operating officer/general counsel. Prior to that, she spent 26 years in private legal practice, 21 of which were with Hoge, Fenton Jones & Appel, Inc. of San Jose, where she last served as managing shareholder.

She is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, where she previously served in numerous leadership roles, including president. She is a senior fellow with American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley and previously served as chair of its board of directors. She was also chair of the Board of Trustees for The Health Trust, a board member of the Silicon Valley Central Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the Santa Clara School of Law Board of Visitors. In addition, she was awarded a Woman of Influence Award by the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
